Mane expert Anita Spencer of Bamboo Hair Studio in Jacksonville, FL, details the steps for crafting this bold braid.
Step 1
Prior to styling, long locs are shampooed and conditioned with moisture-rich products to nourish strands. “I recommend oiling the scalp before creating the braid,” says Spencer. “Doing so will help eliminate flaking and itchiness.”
Step 2
Once Locs are cleansed and scalp is oiled, hair is set under the dryer for about 30 minutes. “Lean forward; hair should be folded toward the front and styled into an inside braid,” notes the hair pro.
Step 3
“Once hair is braided to the end, it should be tucked underneath toward the forehead and stray hairs should be tucked in as well,” shares Spencer. “Use hair pins to secure the free end. Hair pins work best with locs because they ease into the strands better.”
Step 4: Finish
A spritz of oil sheen provides a glossy finish. “My goal was to create a signature style that looked interesting,” explains the mane expert. “This braid was a great way to get my long locs off the neck, but also have a unique style.”
