Stylist to the stars Dr. Boogie knows what it takes to make it in the beauty industry. His success has lead him to work with the stunning coifs of celebrity A-listers such as Vivica A. Fox, LisaRaye, Keyshia Cole and many more.
ON HIS START: “You have to be bold,” shares the mane pro. “Walk up to celebrities and say, ‘I’m the one for you!’ or ‘I should be doing your hair.’” That is how Boogie secured his first celebrity client, singer/actor Morris Day.
ON HIS SECRET: Dr. Boogie also knows the importance of befriending the people working behind the scene. “I know all the publicists in Los Angeles,” he reveals.
ON FINDING THAT BIG BREAK: “Networking in the business is amazing,” explains Dr. Boogie, who landed a spot on the first season of Bravo’s hit reality show Shear Genius thanks to a recommendation from one of his producer friends.
